Have you ever wanted to slip away to another world? One that is relaxing, tranquil, and all about you? I received a "mini day spa" certificate for Christmas, but didn't quite know what the experience would be like. It was something that I always wanted to do, but wouldn't spend the money on. I decided to book the appointment the day before my wedding.
After a morning of non-stop errands, I was ready to relax once I reached the salon. Salon Nordine & Day Spa in Fairfax, Va looks like a Mediterranean hideaway. It has beautifully painted murals, plush furniture, and marble floors.
I checked in with the receptionist and was handed a clipboard that listed choices for the lunch/dinner that was included with the spa package. I was escorted to a changing room, to put on a terrycloth wrap and a very comfortable robe and slippers. My belongings went in a locker, and the key went in the pocket of the robe.
I went to a little waiting nook and was offered water. The other women in the waiting area were in a giggly group; I took the time to close my eyes and relax. The staff was more than accommodating. Everyone that passed by either offered a drink, or anything else that I may have wanted.
Nidia came to give me a manicure. I do not have time to fuss with my natural nails, so I wear tips. Actually, that day I had just put some on and was too busy with my errands to trim them. As she looked at the Freddy Kruger claws, I told her I just wanted them trimmed and polished, to which she laughed. Girlfriend was so friendly and down to Earth; I would recommend her to anyone.
After my beautiful French manicure, I was scheduled for a facial, massage and a pedicure. I won't bore everyone with the play by play. The pedicure was soothing, and my toes looked very pretty. I wasn't very impressed with the massage. Maybe I'm just spoiled because my husband does this for me on a regular basis. I mean, ladies, what would you prefer? A massage from your man, or a stranger in a salon? Nuff said.
What I will go into detail about was the facial. I have never had a professional facial before, so I was very surprised. Lisa (who happens to be a very sweet woman) explained the process to me as she helped me up on the table. For the facial, the customer lies on a table and is covered with a sheet and blanket. She first put steam over my face and proceeded to put what seemed to be 50 different mixtures on my face. She massaged my hands and arms and placed my hands in mitts to soften them while she continued the facial. She was even thoughtful enough to ask about my reason for coming that day. I told her that I was getting married the next day, so she agreed not to do any deep pore treatments. When the facial was over, I was almost asleep and my face felt like silk. Lisa told me that women should ideally get a facial every six weeks. I am definitely going to from now on! An hour of relaxation that betters your skin is worth $65 once in a while.
Over all, the day was wonderful. I had some waiting in between services that made me a little tired. I was told if the mini days are scheduled in the morning, that there is no waiting. The day is also a little expensive, but is a very nice gift. I don't know about repeating the mini day experience, but I will go back for a pedicure and facial. However, I think that all ladies should have the opportunity to be spoiled for one day. Fellas, Mother's Day will be here before you know! Yes, that is a hint.
